Volunteers needed for 2024 event
Volunteers are what make the Volunteer State Science Bowl possible! Won't you consider volunteering for the 2024 competition? The competition has grown and as a result, a record number of volunteers are needed! Please navigate to the link below to fill out your volunteer form for VSSB 2024!
Notes:

Underage volunteers are welcome, but an underage volunteer participation form is required to be signed by the volunteer's legal guardian. Please reach out to VSSBteam@eastman.com to learn more.

In person training is required for many of the positions for the 2024 competition. NSB will also be hosting a few virtual training sessions for volunteers on the following dates:

Moderator

Hosts and controls the competition room

Reads competition questions clearly for to the competition teams

Question Judge/Recognizer

Ensures that the moderator is reading questions correctly and from the correct round

Controls the buzzer system

Verbally recognizes students to respond to the question

Timekeeper

Keeps track of time allowance for students to answer the question

Score Keeper
-
Keeps a running score so that everyone is aware of the competition score during the round of competition and submits the official score to command central

Rules Judge

Assists moderator in controlling the competition rooms

Ensures that the rules are followed

Additional Volunteer Opportunities
Activity Room Leader: Are you part of an organization that wants to participate in VSSB 2024?Sign up a group volunteers from your organization to lead STEM activities for students that have a break in their competition schedule. Plan an activity, bring simple supplies, and provide hands on STEM experience for the students! This is always a highlight for the students competing! Contact our volunteer coordinator to learn more: vssbteam@eastman.com
Command Central Attendant: Help direct competition traffic throughout the day, set-up lunch/snacks, answer parents/spectator questions, collect score sheets from score runners, hand out registration packets to schools upon arrival. (Command Central Volunteers are often assigned by the steering team)
Score runner: Each signed score sheet must be immediately taken after a match back to Command Central. Rotate throughout the competition rooms and collect score sheets to return to Command Central.
